How we collect, use, and protect your personal data.
Rigr ("Rigr", "we", "us") operates rigr.in and connects equipment owners with contractors who need construction equipment on rent. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, how we use it, and the rights you have over it.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us directly: name, phone number, email address, site/business address, equipment details (if you're listing), and anything you add in a free-text field like a request or listing form.
Information we collect automatically: basic device and usage data (browser type, pages visited, approximate location from IP) when you use rigr.in, for analytics and security purposes.
Information generated through the service: booking history, communications with our team, and — for listed equipment — telematics data (GPS location, engine hours, machine health) from devices fitted to rented machines.
We do not collect payment card details directly; these are handled by our payment gateway partner, who is subject to their own data protection and PCI-DSS obligations.
2. Why we collect it
- To match equipment requests with available machines and owners
- To contact you about a request, listing, or booking
- To generate invoices and process payments and payouts
- To provide fleet visibility, safety, and support (telematics)
- To improve the platform and prevent fraud or misuse
- To meet legal, tax, and regulatory obligations
3. Who we share it with
We share personal data only where necessary to provide the service: with the equipment owner or renter involved in a specific booking (so the rental can actually happen), with our payment gateway and logistics partners, and with professional advisors, auditors, or authorities where required by law. We do not sell personal data to third parties.
4. Data retention
We retain personal data for as long as your account or listing is active, and for a reasonable period afterward to meet accounting, tax, and legal record-keeping requirements (commonly several years for financial records under Indian law). You can ask us to delete data that we're not legally required to keep — see Section 6.
5. Data security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, including encryption in transit and access controls on internal systems. No system is perfectly secure, and we'll notify affected users and relevant authorities as required by law in the event of a data breach.
6. Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you can ask us to: give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you, correct inaccurate data, delete data we don't need to keep, and withdraw consent for optional processing (like marketing communications). To exercise any of these, contact our Grievance Officer below.
A note on India's data protection law
India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and its 2025 Rules are being rolled out in phases — core provisions become fully enforceable by mid-2027, with 2026 largely a compliance build-out period industry-wide. We intend to align our practices with the DPDP Act as its provisions take effect. This section will be updated as our obligations under the Act become clearer and as we complete that work — it should be reviewed by counsel and kept current rather than treated as a finished compliance statement.
7. Cookies
rigr.in uses a small number of cookies for essential site function and basic analytics. We don't use cookies for third-party advertising.
8. Children's privacy
Rigr is a B2B/B2C service intended for adults conducting business. We don't knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18.
9. Grievance Officer
In accordance with Indian law, complaints or concerns about how your personal data is handled can be sent to our Grievance Officer at rent@rigr.in or +91 92667 67700. We aim to acknowledge complaints promptly and resolve them within the timelines required by law.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our practices or legal obligations change. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated date.
